GNE Coaster

Due to some services using brandings for such a long period of time they become worn, tired and outdated therefore many are subject to an upgrade which usually occurs every 5 years. However this doesn’t always mean new vehicles are purchased or cascaded onto the service, it sometimes just consists of just having a brand refresh. The vehicles themselves are also given a deep clean to give them a tidier appearance. One such example is the Coaster Service 1 which runs from Wrekenton via Gateshead  and Newcastle to Whitley Bay on the North Tyneside Coast. The Scania OmniCity CN230UB’s used on the service were painted out of the cream livery and into the same sparkly blue as the Whey-Aye-Five-O which seems to be a new standard for all coast services. The livery has a wave design toward the rear with a beach rising up in the middle having the logo of the service over the top and it is then finished off by St. Mary’s Lighthouse being depicted on the side. Pictured us 5264 NK56 KJZ on the 1 towards Whitley Bay – also of note is the new standard for the route numbers on the display.
